Welcome to the best guide you will find on the PSP, the new Sony portable games console called the PSP. The PSP is packed with technology, not only is it a very powerful games console but is can also do all kinds of other things including playing MP3's and viewing high quality video or photos, the PSP has awesome connectivity so files can be transferred easily.

The PSP has an elegant design and the layout is similar to the classic Playstation 2 control pad layout, it features all of the buttons that you would find on a Playstation 2 controller including the directional pad, the square, triangle, circle and cross buttons and the triggers. The Playstation Portable also has a large LCD screen giving great visual performance, so good in fact that watching movies is a joy. The unit also features stereo sound which is great for MP3's, it also comes with some great headphones so you can listen in privacy, basically making the PSP a decent MP3 player.

Performance

The PSP has a 333 MHz processor which is much more powerful than the other hand held consoles, it also has 4 MB of fast DRAM and 32 MB of embedded RAM which ensures very strong graphical performance. The PSP also has high quality stereo speakers as well as Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound capability which will do any game or MP3 justice. The LCD screen is 4.3 inches wide and has a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, the resolution of the LCD screen is 480 x 272 pixels which is high for a small screen so the graphical performance is top notch. The PSP also has a removable, rechargeable, lithium-ion battery.

Media

The discs that the PSP uses are called Universal Media Discs or UMD. They can hold 1.8 gigabytes of data allowing plenty of room for games or film and are protected by a protective cover, they slide into the back of the PSP so loading UMD's is a simple process. Sony have also declared that the UMD is an open format which allows developers to freely use the media for developing games or releasing films which should ensure a healthy selection of titles. The PSP also offers support for memory sticks with the Memory Stick Duo slot, this allows you to save data such as saved games or store files such as MP3's or video, the Sony PSP also comes with a 32meg memory stick.
